Past Events
Assistant Professor Networking Meeting
The first Networking meeting was held in November 2019. The second meeting was held in November
2022 after the COVID-19 pandemic subsided, with Tokyo Institute of Technology (now Institute
of Science Tokyo) serving as the host institution. Hokkaido University hosted in
November 2023, and Tohoku University hosted in November 2024, continuing the series of meetings.
2019 Innovative Teaching Workshop
Prof. Rod Smith of Imperical College London is invited again to conduct Innovative Teaching Workshops in 3 places as follows;
Tuesday, 5 November at S518 Lecture Room, South 5 Building, Ookayama Campus, Tokyo Institute of Technology
Wednesday, 6 November at Higashiyama Campus, Nagoya University
Friday, 8 November at Aobayama Campus, Tohoku University
The 7th UK-Japan Engineering Education League Workshop was held on 5-7 September 2019 at Queen Mary University of London. Thirteen faculty members from 6U-HAPPIER took part.
Executive Board Meeting
The 6U-HAPPIER Executive Board Meeting was held in Hiroshima on 24 May 2019 to discuss on that year's activities. The 6U-HAPPIER welcomed School of Information Science and Electrical Engineering, Kyushu University, School of Environmental Studies, Tohoku University, and School of Biomedical Engineering, Tohoku University as our new members.
The 3rd Japan-Taiwan International Engineering Forum
The 3rd Japan-Taiwan International Engineering Forum was held at Tokyo Tech from 27 February to 1 March 2019. The theme was "Innovative International Collaborative Research with Industries Driven by Young Researchers in Japan and Taiwan". Read a report in Japanese.
6U-HAPPIER Symposium
6U-HAPPIER Symposium was held at Tokyo Tech on Wednesday, 26 December 2018, where 10 Deans (including 3 proxies) attended from 6U member univeristies. We had an honor of having 4 people from Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology with us, including Director of National University Corporation Support Division, who made a short speech, and Deputy Director of Technical Education Division.
Prof. Rod Smith of Imperial College London led again the innovative teaching workshop, at Hokkaido University. Ten Assistant Professors from 6U attended, including 8 from Hokkaido University. Feedback survey and photos can be read here.
6U-HAPPIER had Faculty Exchange Salons at Tohoku University on 16 March 2018, and Osaka University on 22 June 2018. Prof. Yasuda and Prof. Takayama of Osaka University gave talks on their exchange experiences and Prof. Tanaka of Osaka University introduced their activities on Human Assets Promotion at Osaka University. 2017 November Academic Career Enhancement Workshop
6U-HAPPIER hosted ACE Innovative
Teaching Workshops directed by Prof. Roderick Smith of Imperial
College London. Three 2-day sessions were held: 13-14 November at
at Tokyo Tech Ookayama campus, 27-28 November at Osaka University
Suita campus, and 29-30 November at Kyushu University Ito campus.
In total 21 young faculty members attended the workshops.
